Portrait of Joel Adam Smith, business broker

About Joel

Keep and transfer the value so both sides win.

I am a business broker for accounting, bookkeeping and advisory firm owners looking to buy or sell in South East Queensland.

I focus on better-fit transactions that protect value, clients, staff and continuity. Map, Reduce, Transfer is how I bring that focus into the work on both sides of a deal.

How I work

Find the problems early

Anything I can spot now is something a buyer cannot spring on you later.

Never weaponise your risk

I will name what a buyer is likely to push on, then help you answer it. I do not use it to talk your price down.

Confidentiality is value protection

Rumour costs staff and customers. Information moves in a controlled order for a reason.

Buyer quality shapes your outcome

The highest number on paper is not always the deal that settles or the one your people survive.

What I will not promise

  • Guarantee a price, a buyer, or a timeline
  • Promise every customer or staff member stays
  • Tell you the business is ready when it is not

What I will do is give you a better prepared business, a more believable story, and a buyer who has been checked for fit as well as funding.

Where I am right now

I am a licensed Queensland business broker (Licence Number: 4976150). I do the retention and readiness work directly, and I am upfront about where I fit: if you are already deep in buyer conversations, I will tell you straight and point you to the right support for your situation.

I care about the sale actually working, not just what number it closes at. The same things that protect a seller's outcome are what give a buyer confidence to pay for it. That is why owners work with me: retention is not a nice extra, it is what makes the deal good for both sides.

Start with a quiet conversation

No listing pressure and nothing public. We look at what would need to hold together for a buyer to believe the business keeps working after you leave.

  • Where the business still depends on you or one key person
  • Which customers a buyer would worry about
  • What your team would need to hear, and when
  • What is worth sorting in the next six to twelve months

I reply personally. Nothing is said to staff, customers, or the market until you decide it is time.
